Important safety and handling information Note: Failure to comply with these safety guidelines may result in fire, electric shocks or other injuries or lead to the QGate or other devices and components becoming damaged.
The QGate contains sensitive electronic components. Do no let the QGate fall. Do not dismantle or open it, do not break, perforate or crush it and do not bend it using force. Never use force to connect the QGate or when inserting a plug into the QGate. QGate must not be plugged one behind the other. When replugged your QGate automatically runs the most recently used app.
Do not throw QGate into open fire or paint it. Do not heat the QGate in a microwave or insert items into the QGate. Do not use the QGate if it is damaged – for example, if the housing is cracked or has been pierced or if the QGate has been exposed to moisture or has been damaged by water. When connecting the QGate, ensure that it is firmly seated in the socket. Do not handle the QGate with wet hands.
Only use the QGate with the standard plug intended for it. The QGate may become warm during normal usage. Always ensure that there is adequate ventilation around the QGate and handle it with care.
When connecting it to terminal devices, it is vital to ensure that such devices (e.g. radiant heaters) also meet the safety requirements.
Isolate the QGate from the mains in the following circumstances:
- The cable or socket for connecting the device is defective or damaged.
- The QGate or a connected cable or plug has been damaged.
- The QGate has been exposed to rain, liquids or extreme humidity.
- The QGate housing has been damaged.
- The device connected to the QGate is not functioning correctly or is defective.
- You are of the opinion that the QGate is in need of servicing or repair.
- You would like to clean the QGate.
Connection: Never use force to connect the QGate.
Never attempt to use force to insert a plug into the QGate. Check whether there are any blockages in the connection. If the plug cannot be easily connected then it probably does not fit this connection. Ensure that the plug and connection fit each other and that you have aligned the plug correctly with the connection.
Keeping the QGate housing clean
Clean the QGate immediately if it comes into contact with any substances. If you want to clean the QGate, first isolate the QGate and all connected cables from the mains. Use a soft, lightly damp and lint-free cloth. Ensure that no moisture penetrates the housing. Do not use window cleaning agents, household cleaners, sprays, solvents, cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia solutions or abrasive cleaners to clean the QGate.
Protection from liquid and climatic influences
Do not use the QGate in the rain, in the vicinity of wash basins or in other damp environments or wet rooms. Ensure that no liquids spill onto or into the QGate. If the QGate is exposed to moisture, isolate the QGate and all connected cables from the mains prior to cleaning. Allow the device to dry completely before switching it on again. Do not attempt to dry the QGate by means of an external source of heat, for example in a microwave oven or using a hairdryer.
Damage caused due to the QGate coming into contact with liquids is not covered by the warranty.
Repairing or modifying the QGate
Never attempt to repair or modify the QGate yourself. The QGate does not contain any components which can be serviced by the user. Disassembly of the QGate may cause damage to the QGate which is not covered by the warranty. Servicing should only be carried out by a service partner authorised by QGate Innovations GmbH. Risk of suffocation
The QGate contains small parts which potentially could be swallowed by children and therefore may present a risk of choking. Keep the QGate and its accessories out of reach of children.
Do not use the QGate in hazardous areas. In such environments, radio communications may cause explosions or fires which could lead to serious injury or even death. Hazardous areas are commonplace but not always clearly identified. The following may be considered to be hazardous areas:
Tank areas (such as petrol stations), the area below deck on ships, facilities for transmitting or storing fuels or chemicals, vehicles operated using liquid gas (such as propane or butane), areas in which the air contains chemicals or particles (such as grain, dust or metal powders), and other areas where it is usually advisable to turn off the engine of your vehicle.
Acceptable temperature range for the QGate
Only use the QGate within a temperature range from 0 ºC to 35 ºC. Store the QGate within a temperature range from -20 ºC to 45 ºC. The service life of the QGate may be shortened or proper functioning may be impaired at lower or higher temperatures.
Avoid using the QGate when there are extreme fluctuations in temperature or air humidity as these may cause condensation to form on or within the QGate. The QGate will become warm during use. This is normal. The exterior of the QGate housing functions as a heat dissipator which conducts the heat from the interior of the housing away to cooler air outside.
Protection from HF energy
The QGate contains radio transmitters and receivers. When switched on, the QGate receives and sends HF energy (high frequency) via the antenna. The QGate?s radio antenna is located on the underside of the QGate on the left next to the socket. The radio link?s radio antenna is located on the top of the QGate. Always observe the following instructions and precautions to guarantee optimum performance of the radio module and to ensure that the effects of the HF energy on humans do not exceed the limit values in the FCC rules, IC regulations and EU directives. During the development and manufacture of the QGate, great care has been taken to comply with the limit values for exposure to HF energy determined by the US authorities FCC (Federal Communications Commission), the Canadian authorities IC (Industry Canada) and the appropriate authorities in Japan, the European Union and other countries. The limit value standard is based on an internationally defined Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limit value. The SAR limit value applicable for the QGate, which has been determined by the FCC, is 1.6 Watt per kilogram (W/kg). The IC authorities likewise determine the value at 1.6 W/kg, while the EU bodies set it at 2.0 W/kg. The SAR limit value tests are carried out in typical operating situations indicated by these authorities and bodies (i.e. held on the ear or worn on the body), whereby the QGate transmits data in all tested frequency bands with maximum transmission power. Even though the SAR limit value is determined by the highest certified transmission power in all frequency bands, the QGate?s actual SAR value during operation is often significantly less than the maximum value as the QGate partially adjusts the radio transmission power based on the proximity to the radio network. It is generally the case that the closer you are to a radio base station, the lower the radio transmission power value. The QGate has been tested extensively and complies with the limit values for protection from high frequency energy determined in the FCC rules, IC regulations and EU directives for mobile and radio communications.
HF emissions from electrical devices may negatively affect the operation of other electronic devices and lead to malfunctions. Even though great care was taken during development, testing and manufacture of the QGate to comply with the limit values for protection from HF energy determined by USA, Canada, the European Union, and Japan, the QGate may cause interference with other electronic devices.
Please observe the following precautions:
HF signals from the QGate may affect the electronic systems in motor vehicles. Contact your vehicle manufacturer or a service centre if you would like more information.
The Health Industry Manufacturers Association (HIMA) recommends that you maintain a minimum distance of 15 cm between a mobile telephone and a cardiac pacemaker to prevent possible interference with the cardiac pacemaker. People with cardiac pacemakers please ensure that the QGate is always further than 15 cm from the cardiac pacemaker when the device is plugged in. If you have reason to suspect that there may be interference, immediately isolate the QGate and all connected cables from the mains.
Interference may occur between the QGate and hearing aids. In this case, please contact the hearing aid manufacturer or your doctor in order to find out more about alternatives or possible remedial action.
Other medical devices
If you use other medical devices, please contact the manufacturer or your doctor to determine whether the device is adequately shielded from HF signals.
Hospitals and medical practices
In hospitals and medical practices, devices may be used which react sensitively to external HF energy. Do not use the QGate in hospitals or medical practices if this is stated in the house rules of the particular facility.
Blasting areas and public buildings
In order to prevent interfering signals in blast areas, do not use the QGate if you are in a blast area or in an area where the use of radio equipment is prohibited. It is imperative that you observe all prohibitive signs and safety regulations.

The QGate is used for switching electrical devices with a max. output current of 10A / 2.300VA (ohmic load) on and off. The QGate is designed for a maximum of up to 8.000 switching cycles with reactive loads (e.g. halogen spotlight).
